Fabricius Anna

My photographic as well as video works depict manual labourers, factory workers and athletes, who I ask to let me take pictures during their working hours (sociologist Eviatar Zerubavel calls this time when the labourer is available “public time”) at their usual workplace. I am interested in the opinion of the participants, so I never work with a specific concept in mind.

My working method can be described rather like a game, where I define the rules, but the participants choose the path to the final result. Lately I have been making videos which are based on children’s games or improve those games. The rules of the game, the participants as well as the titles of the videos are decisive, so I take a modern critical approach to the specific theme. I know neither what the outcome will be nor how the participants will contribute verbally and physically. This total freedom serves as inspiration both in my photo and my video works.
